When I introduced Discover Texas back in 1999, I just wanted to help parents avoid burnout by providing them with the tools to teach Texas history as an interactive learning adventure.
It didn’t occur to me until later that the method we use in Discover Texas is as unique as the program, itself.
- We tailor lessons to fit to all ages, interests, and learning styles.
- We integrate unit studies and field trips to help students grasp the meaning of events in context.
- We use discovery learning, Socratic questions, and dialogue to help students think deeply and make connections.
- We introduce students to heroes of history through real books and living conversations.
- Last but not least, we make learning fun!
Eighteen years later people still ask us, “How do you do that?” and “Can I adapt these ‘tricks’ to get my kids excited about subjects other than history?”
The answer to the second question is, “YES!”
The answer to the first question is our new Homeschool How-To courses online!
The first course, How to Teach the Way Your Child Learns, is open for enrollment now for only $30 . . . but may I give you an insider tip?
Download our free introductory sample lesson, How to Enhance Learning with Sensory Layers, FIRST! It’s FREE, and when you complete the short sample lesson, you’ll find a bonus coupon good for 1/3 OFF the first full course.
As each new course is introduced, we’ll add a bonus coupon for 1/3 off added to the final page of the previous course, so whenever you sign up for one, it will be easy to jump right into the next course.
And speaking of “next courses”, here’s what’s coming soon!
Fun, huh? 🙂 I’m so excited, y’all, because I truly believe that the ideas and information in these quick little courses can refuel your inspiration and help you create exciting learning exeriences instead of just falling into the “school at home” trap. Think of these courses as your “homeschool teacher training.”
Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting nuggets drawn from the courses so you can see how good and useful this stuff is. I’m not really bragging when I say that, though, because the ideas didn’t come from my head alone. They’re a composite of all I’ve learned from working with other dedicated homeschool mamas for the last 25 years. Alone, we struggle sometimes, but Mamas, together we’re awesome! 🙂
