Newsman Dan Rather was born on October 31, 1931 in Wharton, Texas and earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Sam Houston State University. He began his journalism career as an Associated Press reporter in Huntsville, Texas in 1950, but went on to anchor the CBS Evening News from 1981-2005 and served as a correspondent for 60 Minutes from 1968-1981 and from 1999-2006.
