I can’t tell you how much I love the Institute of Texan Cultures…but that won’t stop me from trying! Located beneath the Tower of the Americas in downtown San Antonio, the Institute is a collection of exhibits honoring every single culture and people group who have contributed to the mix that gives Texas its unique blend. No matter where your ancestors came from, you’ll learn wonderful things about who they were, why they came, and what they gave us. The Institute of Texan Cultures is a celebration of the people of Texas.
The Institute of Texan Cultures is open Monday through Saturday from 9-5 and Sundays from noon to 5. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for military and children 3-11. Children 2 and under are free, and if you’re traveling with a group of 10 or more, tickets are just $4/person.
If you can, plan to visit during the 43rd annual Texas Folklife Festival, June 13-14 this year. It’s a multicultural heritage celebration with a weekend full of music, dancing, food, demonstrations, and crafts. For homeschool families, this is “brain candy”! You’ll be so glad you came, and your kids will have so much fun they won’t know they’re learning. 😉
