It’s wired into boys to provide for themselves and their families and to defend what they believe in.
We NEED to teach them appropriate ways to do these things. Weaponry is one means of providing (hunting for food) and defending when peaceable means fail. Weapons and wars are part of history.
We DON’T need to over-react, punishing boys for natural curiosity. Anything forbidden becomes that much more fascinating, and without knowledge and proper context, weapons can dangerous in the wrong hands.
Instead, perhaps we should return to doing what responsible, peace loving families have done for generations–teach the terrible consequences of uncontrolled violence, teach restraint and personal responsibility, and teach discernment.
